Structure

Overview

NightStories is a 7-evening community program to help you realign your nights for overall self-care, wellness, emotional processing, and dreaming.

NightStories will be a weaving of evidence-based sleep science paired with art and movement processing practices to help support restful nights (with or without sleep). NightStories will also be exploring tools for incorporating, or continuing an ongoing dreamwork practice. Each evening will also feature a short bedtime story to send you on your way to a deep and restful night. All material is created through a trauma-informed lens.

NightStories will be held virtually over Zoom in the comfort of your own home.

Nightly Components

Each evening of NightStories there will be 6 main components:

  • Sleep Science — We will explore seven major evidence-based components including the bones of what makes good restful sleep (sleep hygiene) as well as social and emotional components of sleep and the science of dreams.
  • Movement Processes — Each night will have an element of exposure to different somatic explorations to promote relaxation, discovery, and ease.
  • Art Process — During each session there will be offerings to steep further into your exploration of nighttime and sleep through both guided art as well as short, creative artistic invitations to complete mindfully before bed.
  • Dream Practice — This course will build new, or expand upon already well established dream practices to help you connect more deeply to your dream life and incorporate it into your routine.
  • NightStories — Each night we will end with a bedtime story of a myth or folklore that relates to sleep, dreams, and the mysterious happenings of the night.
  • Community Container — In addition to weaving community into each of these previous components, there will also be an opportunity each session to share and witness what has been coming up for everyone during their journey towards restful nights.

What do I bring?

A full explanation of how to prepare for the workshop will be emailed to you upon registration.

In short, the best things you can do is prepare a cozy, distraction-free space in your home and clear your evening schedule for a full week to engage deeply in this workshop.

It will be helpful for you to also have some easy-to-use art supplies each night of the workshop. They can be as inexpensive as a small box of crayons, but we recommend you have something nearby your space that lets you dig into some color.

Common Hesitation

“A Week Sounds Like A Long Time”

This is the most common hesitation people pause on when considering this type of a workshop.

This is valid. Our lives are busy and to clear our schedules every night for a full week is a privilege.

We encourage you to consider if this is the best time for you to take this workshop if you are not able to commit to this particular structure.

The primary reason this workshop is active each night for a week is because incorporating or re-establishing a restful evening routine is not a ‘one time’ fix issue.

Creating and continuing habits is a combination of many different internal and external factors. Many people actually know what a restful evening could look like, but many people are unwilling or unable to shift their environment to make this change.

This workshop is structured to help you jumpstart and continue your dedication towards your own rest.

I love that this workshop has continued to unfold for me in the months since we all met up. It was such a wealth of information in such a short amount of time; it’s been a delight to see different aspects of the course speak to me in new ways as I continue this on-going, ever-changing relationship with sleep and dreams every night.

About Your Facilitator

Your Workshop Guide – Dagny Deutchman

Dagny Deutchman is an artist, dancer, guide, storyteller, poet, educator, and lifelong learner. Dagny is the sole creator of Pomegranate and Magpie where she combines her multi-faceted background of art, movement, science, and community work into empowering people through self-exploration. Dagny has been an instructor of movement since 2007, a guide since 2008, and an educator since 2014.

After two and half years studying sleep, Dagny recognized the disconnection between the scientific research and the realities of what it means to actually engage in sleep and rest. Dagny’s work in a sleep lab that focused on the social and emotional aspects of sleep, as well as her textured background in creative work and dreaming lead her to offer something they found themselves craving—the best of both worlds.

Dagny holds a bachelors degree in Psychology with a research emphasis and Minor in Dance from the University of Montana and is close to a Masters of Science in Psychology of Sleep as it relates to Mindfulness and Self Compassion. She has been in community building and organizing in the western United States for most of her adult life. Originally from Idaho, she has worked for over 12 years in a 2.4 million acre wilderness on present day Shoshone-Bannock tribal land where she has swapped stories with thousands of people in the Middlefork corridor.

She is exceptionally excited to help guide you towards your own personal and full-bodied restful night.
